The global refugee crisis of 2017 left millions upon millions displaced, and even more looking for answers. Inspired by those seeking asylum at Refugee Services of Texas, we sought to shine a light on the human nature effected – a stark reminder that the true cost of turning away those in need is human and innumerable.

Fifty-three faces, fifty-three distinct expressions, and fifty-three separate journeys represented in black and white portraits. The personal glimpses and the emotions they evoke are contrasted by a hundred black pages; These pages represent the countless individuals that will be denied the opportunity to seek refuge.
